June 30 Some club members went out to the dark site to try and get a peek at Comet C/2001 A2 (LINEAR), on the night of June 30th. Here's what they had to say about the trip: Last night's dark-sky site trip was amazing!!! Once the moon set, the sky really cleared up and there was a lot to see. We spotted comet linear at 3 am!!!! It was low in the ESE sky (as predicted). It wasn't visible to the naked eye and looked like a fuzzy galaxy or nebula with binoculars. The tail wasn't visible. It looked like it was 5th magnitude and I think this is the brightest it gets; it has passed its closest point to earth. Better get a quick look now!!
